Bungy Jumping in Queenstown, New Zealand!

Hello everyone, so this is my first post ever here in our cosy wkw exchange blog!!! How are you guys doing?! Most of us are probably about half way through our exchange or almost done huh?

BUT ANYWAYYYY.

I just returned from a 2-week campervan trail around New Zealand’s South Island (NZ is made up of 2 separate islands, the North and the South). It was an amazing experience and I promise to blog to you guys about it. But for now, I bring to you…

BUNGY JUMPING IN QUEENSTOWNNNNN

Image

It was my first ever bungy jump. An extremely spontaneous decision because I was supposed to skydive earlier in the day but weather turned out shitty (Kaiying you lucky girl! ;D) so heyheyhey, why not jump off a platform at a height of 134m instead?! Sounds like not a bad idea eh! Besides, bungy jumping originated from New Zealand, so here I am, in the motherland of bungy jumping so WHY NOT!

Queenstown is also known for adrenaline junkies, offering an arrraayyyy of extreme sports stuff so if you’re into that, COME HERE TO NEW ZEALAND.

LET’S GET DOWN TO BUNGY!

I was driven for about 40 minutes to the place where they were gonna make me commit suicide. Yeap, now I kinda know that a person needs immense courage to jump off a building man. Seriously, no joke.

This was the bus,

My bungy number! #47

As a typical chinese, I calculated what 47 would mean. 4 means die. But 7 means lucky in the angmoh world. Lucky number 7. So I guess, when you put 4 and 7 together, it would mean, lucky until die! Which means, I’ll be really really lucky! Hurray! No worries!

Ok, but to be honest, I was quite nonchalant about everything. Maybe I was trying to act cool. But I think it was mainly because it was too much of a spontaneous decision to do the bungy. I didn’t even think twice. I just wanted to do something. So I didn’t have time to say hey, what are you doing? WHAT are you doing?!

It was $260 to jump, but 230 for me with 30 dollars discount coz student price hahahah that’s the spirit! But yeah, my friends and I were wondering why people would pay large amounts of money to have about 6 seconds of free fall.

But I TELL YA. IT IS WORTH IT. Every single dollar. Even that 30 dollars discount. You have to do it!

So there I went,

The platform I was to jump out of. At this point of time, I was still playing Ms Cool Cat. In that cat brain of mine, I was looking up and down and thinking, wow, that is pretty high. Slight nervousness but yeahhh still alright.

At the platform area

Strappin ma ankles

So I was just sitting and they were strapping me to things here and there. I was watching other people jump and all I thought about was what to say when I jumped. Do I scream? Do I shout something funny? Do I….

Before I knew it,

It was MY TURN////

That was when things started to get to my head.

Look at that face. All happy and excited? Fake one lah only know how to act cool.

Before I knew it….

I was asked to stand up and walk bit by bit to this tiny little platform. Best advice? Don’t look down. BULLSHITTTT EVERYONE LOOKS DOWN WHEN THEY BUNGY.

So when I did, in that moment… (I was infinite). My ass I felt infinite. I felt like I was gonna melt and dissolve right at that moment. Ok, so maybe I am supposed to feel infinite in that way coz I become little atoms and molecules of nothingness. BUT OH MY LORDDDD, all I could think in my head was omfg…. omfg.. this is so FREAKIN HIGH WTF AM I DOING OMG.

Immediate thought after that, “I can’t do this.”

But you’re there! You are standing there, you paid 230 dollars for this with 30 dollars discount, the instructor is watching you, YOU GOTTA DO IT. You just have to.

Besides, you don’t have time to think anyway. Coz when you’re standing there, the dude does a countdown. And there’s absolutely no time to think.

My friends who did the bungy days ago also told me to JUMP immediately after the countdown, lest you have second thoughts and end up hesitating.

So I did just that.

3, 2, 1…

BUNGY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I screamed. I screamed and then stopped coz the free fall made my heart fall out and I was rendered speechless, before continuing my scream again. So it was, AHH.. stop and then AHHHHHHHH back again. It was the most sissy scream I had ever made in my life. I can’t believe I screamed like a girl! I mean, I am a girl, but it was the most sissy scream ever! Hahahah. You can watch it here..

In firstconcubine trademark fashion, here is a video that documented my bungy jump experience,

Yeahhh….

It was definitely exhilarating and very much worth it. It needs to be done before you die and ticked off the bucket list.

I also befriended a lady from China there : )

Had lunch with her and talked about stuff as if I knew her since 1997 or something hahaha.

So there ya go! That was my first ever bungy dive for you at Queenstown, New Zealand! If you ever make a trip to New Zealand, pls do the bungy or the skydive. It becomes almost necessitous to do it.

And if you god-knows-how, happen to pop by New Zealand, do say hello to me and Andrew haha! We’re both in the North Island though.

I wish you guys all the love in all the different parts of the world and I send my greetings!

May the adventure continue for the rest of our time in exchange. Singapore can wait : )
